Shearing

The type of deformation of a body under the influence of a force is referred to as shearing. Here, the force acts cross-parallel on parallel inner or outer surfaces of a body. The surfaces are displaced relative to each other.

As an example, imagine a book on which the book's covers are moved parallel against each other. In this case, the back of the book and the side binding form an angle not equal to 90.

With shearing, the ratio of the shear force F to the shear stress τ and the surface A is τ = F/A
