Plasma

Plasma

In physical terms, plasma refers to superheated gases, the properties of which are determined by the splitting of the molecules into ions and electrons. Such plasmas - also referred to as the "4th state of matter" - occur for example in the sun and other hot stars. Plasma can also occur as low-temperature plasma in gas discharges (glow discharge), the Northern Lights, flame gases, arcs etc. Plasma treatment is employed to remove impurities, chemically modify a surface and increase the surface tension.
